The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was a tandem two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor and fighter-bomber originally developed for the United States Navy by McDonnell Aircraft. It first entered service in 1961 with the Navy. The F-4J version improved both air-to-air and ground-attack capability; deliveries begun in 1966 and ended in 1972 with 522 built.
