About this product
The Spitfire Mk VI, developed on the basis of the Spitfire Mk V, was the first Spitfire series fighter developed for high-altitude combat purposes, not for reconnaissance. It features a supercharged cockpit and a Merlin Type 47 engine with a maximum power of 1415 hp, and the wingspan of the “C” wing has been increased to 40.2 feet. In February 1941, RAF 124 Squadron became the first squadron to be equipped with the Spitfire VI, five of which were shipped to the Middle East theater to replace the Spitfire Mk V Special fighters. In the actual use process, it was found that the performance of the “Spitfire” Mk VI did not meet the design requirements, therefore, only 97 were built; It is not yet as capable as the special Spitfire MK V deployed overseas and cannot reach a flight altitude of 50,000 feet to intercept the Ju86P-2 bomber. The most serious disadvantage is the fact that the canopy must be locked to be pressurized, and although it can be thrown away in an emergency, it cannot be opened in normal flight. After transferring to second-line units and taking on training tasks, most Spitfire MK VIs replaced fixed wingtips with replaceable wingtip components.
